The Government of Mexico City, through the Secretariat of Government (SECGOB), issued an official statement to clarify the confusion generated regarding the applicable provisions during the Holy Week celebrations in the capital. One of these measures establishes the prohibition of the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public spaces, with the aim of ensuring safety and promoting peaceful coexistence during the festivities.
According to the agreement established between the Government of Mexico City and the 16 boroughs, each has the autonomy to decide whether to implement a total Dry Law in its territory or to apply it only in specific neighborhoods and areas, depending on scheduled activities and local conditions. SECGOB emphasized that this measure does not imply a generalized Dry Law throughout the city, refuting inaccurate information that circulated previously.
The 8 boroughs where a Dry Law will be in effect are: – Iztapalapa – Gustavo A. Madero – Magdalena Contreras – Cuajimalpa – Tláhuac – Venustiano Carranza – Milpa Alta – Xochimilco
In addition to the restriction on alcohol consumption in public, authorities urged the citizenship to avoid the use of fireworks without authorization, the carrying of firearms, the wasting of drinking water, especially during Holy Saturday, and the holding of events that exceed reasonable hours.
The capital government, led by Clara Brugada, reiterated the commitment of her administration to collective well-being and called on the population to contribute to the development of a Holy Week in conditions of peace and respect.
